“And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how many people enjoyed good times with those songs. And how much those songs really mean. I think it would be great to have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote one of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote those songs are happy. I hope they feel it’s enough. I really do because they’ve made me happy. And I’m only one person.”
― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
This year’s celebration of Social Media Day will be a festive one. It will be entrenched on the young and free spirits of this generation. We will enliven this through a night filled with music that shaped our nation through the years and an exuberant thought sharing activity on different topics that redefined our culture and brought us to where we are today as one of the biggest consumer of social media in the world.
MUSIC will be our embodiment. We believe that thru the music of social media, we are copiously enabled to groove as one in shedding light to some of our country’s forlorn issues and faced controversies. We are able to sing the same song that awakens our better judgment of the different things that affects our daily lives. Aside from bringing people together, we know that music also serves as a great medium of recall; an anthology of memories that will rocket us back to some of the greatest moments in time when we showed the world of what it is to be Filipino.
This year, we promise to recognize the best of online media in the Philippines (#BoomPH). We will commemorate milestones that became catalysts of change in our society. We will clearly define the social impact of all these and highlight social responsibility and online media as a knowledge bank in the process of improving collaborative efforts between the different communities we had the pleasure of inviting. It will be recreational, supportive, and it will fully require creativity to work around the brilliant minds of our present influencers. We will sing as one, dance as one, and be young the entire day to fully clinch the culture we will revive and marry to the culture we have composed now for everyone to hear and celebrate!
Social Media Day 2014’s celebration was indeed a successful and BOOMing one! It was a day that celebrated not just the glory of social media in our society, but the collaborative efforts of different communities that stood together as one! It signified unity and strength in the togetherness we all shared in making a difference. Isang tunay na kahanga-hangang tagumpay para sa lahat! And this is just the beginning…
To quote one story from my co-organizer when her boss asked her why we do such thing without getting anything from it (money wise); she simply said it’s because of passion and because of each and everyone’s drive of helping; of lending a hand to those who bears the future of our nation. Indeed, it’s the whole truth to it. We in TweetUpMNL firmly believes in the power of social media. We believe in its vital role in our society today and its power to shape and reshape culture. We may not materially benefit from this, but the fulfillment it gives us in bringing people together to share one vision with us is more than enough to kiss all our stresses away.
It’s simply one hell of an experience!
Thank you to everyone who took part in making this day come true! Next year is a bigger challenge for us and we hope that by then, we will grow in numbers and stronger as ever! To good friends, to good life, and to the best experiences that is yet to come! CHEERS!
